HELL NO! BEAUTY LIST

HELLO LOVELIES!

The beauty industry can have a nasty side. This is a list of, Oh, HELL no!—you should never use these ingredients or practices. And WE DO test on animals? Oh, HELL no!

The Bad Stuff Why It’s Bad for You
Animal fats, oils, and musks Tallow, rendered beef or mutton fat, oils or musks from animals like mink, emu and sharks that are procured after an animal has been killed.
Benzalkonium chloride A disinfectant used as a preservative and surfactant associated with severe skin, eye and respiratory irritation and allergies.
Bisphenol A (BPA) A hormone disruptor that may also alter DNA, used in plastics and resins.
Butoxyethanol A solvent used to control viscosity, or a “fragrance” additive. It irritates skin and may cause cancer and reproductive toxicity.
BHA and BHT Synthetic antioxidants used to extend shelf life. They are likely carcinogens and hormone disruptors, and may cause liver damage.
Coal tar hair dyes and other coal tar ingredients A byproduct of coal processing that is a known carcinogen. Has been linked to cancer and can be contaminated with heavy metals toxic to the brain.
1,4-dioxane Possible human carcinogen associated with manufacturing of surfactants.
Formaldehyde A known carcinogen that is also linked to asthma, neurotoxicity, and developmental toxicity.
Hydroquinone A skin lightening chemical that inhibits the production of melaninand is a linked to cancer, organ toxicity and skin irritation
Methyl cellosolve A fragrance ingredient and solvent that is an irritant and a possible neurotoxin, developmental toxin, and cause of DNA mutations that may possibly lead to cancer.
Mercury and mercury compounds (also listed as Thimerosal) Metallic element used as a preservative and antiseptic linked with damaged brain function.
Oxybenzone Primarily used in sunscreens and linked to allergies, hormone disruption, and cellular damage.
Parabens A class of preservatives believed to be hormone disruptors, which alter important hormonal mechanisms in our bodies. Parabens mimic estrogen; they can lock on to our cell’s own estrogen receptors and interfere with important natural signals. They may also be associated with triggering breast cancer; although this has not been proven. Look out for ingredients with “paraben” in their name (methylparaben, butylparaben, propylparaben, isobutylparaben, ethylparaben.)
Phthalates (DBP, DEHP, DEP and others) Used in the production of plastics to make them soft and pliable as well as in personal care products as fragrances. Considered to be endocrine disruptors that interfere with normal hormonal function and metabolism.
Resorcinol Toxic in high doses and can disrupt the function of the central nervous system and lead to respiratory problems while disrupting the endocrine system, specifically thyroid function. In low levels, irritating to eyes and skin.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS and SLES) SLS and SLES are surfactants that can cause skin irritation and trigger allergies.
Toluene A volatile petrochemical solvent that is toxic to the immune system and may cause birth defects.
Triclosan and Triclocarban Antimicrobial pesticides toxic to the aquatic environment; may also impact human reproductive systems.

I SURRENDER

Week 3

02/19-02/25

HELLO LOVELIES!! It’s been yet another exciting and Looong week for me. How about you? This is week was very hard but I pushed through very nicely. This week during class was our week to listen. This week we were to sit back and relax and just LISTEN to what GOD has in store for our lives. I have to admit it was hard. We had to shut out that number one thing keeping us distracted from God and being close to him. My distraction was Social Media, so for a whole week I did not check any of my social media sites nor did I post anything. I have to say that was soooo hard-Because weather we realize it or not Social Media is the new age right now and it’s impossible not to be addicted? How many times a day do you check your Facebook? How many times do you check your Twitter per day? Even Instagram—Come on be honest. For me it’s every 5 minutes- Its bad I know.

Anyway, just like last week we had to meditate off 5 points and they were as follows.

Listening requires being still (Psalms 46:10)

Before moving you should seek God first by calling him and praying.

God speaks to us through his word, our thoughts, others, and circumstances. If you don’t hear from God, take a step, and if you don’t feel at peace, then step back.

Ask God for discernment (The Ability to Judge Well)

Remember that God is Sovereign let Him work.

Along with these 5 points we were asked some questions. Answer these in your own spare time or share with family or friends.

  1. Is there anything specific that you need to hear from God?
  2. What will you ask God to reveal?
  3. What time will you sit aside daily to meditate daily
  4. What’s your prayer?

We were also instructed to write down 3 blessings in our life and 3 things you would like to change about yourself?

My 3 Blessings Are…

  1. My 2 Daughters
  2. My Husband
  3. My Mother

3 Things I Would Like To Change about Myself

  1. To Open Up More(I tend to shut down on anything new)
  2. Be Confident
  3. Be More Of Myself

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:5-7(NIV)

I do hope this renews your week and come back for Week 4 “Renewal”

MANY BLESSINGS,

TORI

Week 1-Surrender

Hello Lovelies! How was your weekend? Well Superbowl is over and now everything is back to normal. If you’ve been following- I recently began a grow group at my church called “I Surrender” a class centering on God and surrendering all aspects of your Life to him. Week 1 was a worksheet that consisted of 5 questions we each had to answer(Honestly)

Question 1

What are your goals for connecting to God(i.e. healing, focus, rest, etc)

Question 2

What is your mission? What will be your commitment?

To connect with God by……..

Question 3

What questions do you have?(For God and yourself)

Question 4

What do you need to release in order to have a closer relationship with God? And whats standing in your way?

Question 5

What will be your biggest challenge in connecting with God?

These questions are great with being honest with yourself and with God. Our biggest distraction is Ourselves and the inability to be honest with ourselves. I thought long and hard to answer these questions as honest as i could. Even tho my mind was telling me to back out-Don’t do it-But i did and will continue for the next 6 weeks!

Are You Ready For The Answers!

Question 1

My goals are to regain focus and guidance. Find out my purpose in life. Understand my financials and get out of this rut and to REST! I emphasize rest because being a mom of an active 7 year, recently diagnosis with ADHD and a 1 year old, My sleep has been very slim.

Question 2

My mission is to seek God whole-heartily and commit to my 6 week makeover

Question 3

Why does it seem like i keep digging myself further in this storm that i’m in?

Why can’t i get it right?

How can i change?

How can i over-come procrastination?

How can i grow closer to you?

Question 4

I need to release my mind, body, and soul in order to be closer to God. My lack of confidence and stepping out into the unknown stands in my way. Letting Go And Letting God-Is my biggest milestone.

Question 5

I have two small children and work a 9 to 5, so i get off late and by the time i get home after an hour of traffic-Its homework help(which is too late for her), bath, dinner and to bed. So time management is my biggest issue.

Week 2 of our class is this week and Sunday we were presented with a “Tool Box” with all of our lessons, devotionals, readings, weekly word, and daily prayers. I thought this idea was so NEAT! See below the box(I will decorate it later this week)

She also advised us to set up our theme cards somewhere we would remember and see daily as we start out our week. I placed mine on the wall near my office in my bedroom. See below!

Her Are The Contents Of The Tool Box Provided To Us!

I SURRENDER

Closing Remarks!

The Ultimate Date Night Guide

Hello Lovelies!

Valentine’s date night doesn’t  have to be extreme or fancy. Share the love with these simple but yet romantic date night ideas that could go beyond just Valentine’s Day.

Some are simple as just going out to eat or if your a family of 4 like me taking time off to enjoy the day for yourselves while the kiddos are in school.

Eat In. Avoid the crowd of a restaurant and pick up your favorite dinner to go.

Relax together. Book a day at the spa or better yet arrange a day at home or at a hotel and give each other massage’s and enjoy the outcome after that.

Fun In The Sun. Remember back in the day when you’d go on a date and they would take you out on a little drive-Find a cozy spot to watch the Sunrise-Its a great excuse to cuddle up with your valentine.

Get Cultural. Break free and go to a museum or art gallery. It can spark interesting conversation and reveal more about you and your mate on how they see the world.

Spark It Up. Make sure the kiddos(if any) are in the bed or at least at a sitter while you wear something new to bed.(No Flannel!!!)

Go to the movies. A good’ol’fashion movie never fails.

Keep it light. No serious discussions about finances, kids, or criticisms.

Go Bowling. Challenge a game between you and your mate. Make It Fun!

Paintball. Rough it up for your mated and find a local paintball field and be loose.

Comedy Club. Enjoy each other with a few laughs.(Me and My Hubby Love The Improv-Check Your Local City For One)

Go Dancing. Find a local swing club or lounge and walk-it-out!

Have a board game night. Choose your favorite board game and play the traditional way or throw in a romantic twist.

Set The Mood. For this you will want the kiddos gone. Think candles. Think flowers. Recreate your own fine dining centered around your dining room.

Last Minute Stay-cation. Book a nice hotel in your local area and just relax. Just the two of ya’ll.

Do Something Adventurous. Skydiving(so not me) Bungee Jumping. Rock Climbing. Anything out of the Norm.

Take A Cooking Class. Do you love to cook? Explore gourmet goodies or take a local cooking class together.

Runaway. Plan a daring getaway just the two of you, No cell phones, No contact form others(unless you have kids-but hopefully they’ll be at a secure place).

DIY paint night. Are you creative? Do you love the arts? Make it a paint night.

Pack a Picnic. Make is simple and thoughtful. You don’t necessarily have to go to a park-Spread a blanket on the living room floor and enjoy some fun homemade treats.

These are just a few ideas compared to the 100’s that are out there that you can do. What did you and your mate do for Valentine? Be sure to post below!
